Use an agreed light or sound pattern to send a simple message, including a pause that marks its end.

A little help from a grown-up

Choose gentle spoken beeps if you prefer a no-flash activity. For light, point the flashlight at an indoor wall both people can see.

Tick each step as you go. There’s no rush to wonder.

Agree that one signal means wait and two mean ready. Practice. Leave a short gap inside the pair and a much longer pause after the whole message.
Send one message slowly. Your helper waits for the long pause, then says what it means.
Swap jobs. Try gentle spoken beeps with the same gaps. If you miss a message, ask to hear or see it again.

Pause and wonder

Both people can explain the code and check a message after its ending pause. Missing a signal is a reason to ask for another try.
